HEART SHAPED STONE
Solo exhibition ~ Grainger gallery
Opening 14 August 2025

This significant exhibition is a result of a residency spent in the Molise region of Italy during the spring of 2024. Artist Melinda Giblett explores the conceptual and technical possibilities of her painting and drawing practice on country of a different kind, bridging the divides of location and origin. Drawing on the benefits of taking time in place, with people and their stories, the deep history of the tiny village of Collemacchia and its surrounds reveals itself powerfully through the inclusion of historical and local provocations in her colour palette-proposing colour as a primary force for the formation of meaning. Heart Shaped Stone seeks to investigate fresh perspectives on the dialogue between contemporary Australian painting and its role in global interconnectedness.
