Un-Becoming, 2026 Pigmented ink on linen 32 x 32 x 2 cmMy work explores the weight of youth isolation and the feeling of being unseen. I used negative images and exclusion mode, allowing the lichen to pull the gaze away from the subject to emphasise her being overlooked. This echoes how young people can feel resigned to the fringes of a crowded world. Printed on a small piece of cloth, the work forces an intimate, close viewing. Left to gather dust, the material will weather over time, physically emulating her gradual disappearance into herself.
