My paintings arise from direct engagement with the landscape and arrive at something that is both non-representational yet simultaneously tied to a sense of place. ‘Panorama’ was painted with part reference to several observed landscapes and part responding intuitively to the emerging elements during the process of building this work. Layers of history and story about place are built as the layers of paint are applied, removed and rediscovered.
