The trees are now silent

Vera Zulumovski

The trees are now silent, 2023 linocut on montval paper 95 x 66 cm

My family has an inherited legacy of bee keeping. The trees are now silent is about the recent consequences of the varroa mite infestation which led to our hives being euthanized. The image is a tribute and lament, an acknowledgement of the vital role bees play in our ecosystem and a reminder of nature’s fragility.
