For several years I've been walking the lines of dry creek beds in outback NSW, using the stark white shapes of river gums against the reds and ochres of the sandy beds to inform my drawings. The drawings have an exploratory approach, informed as much by the emotions that arise in the solitude, as the abstract shapes and saturated colours of the desert. 'Mutawintji, Easter Sunday' came out of one of these walks and is dedicated to the memory of the writer/artist Ross Gibson.
