Reflected Gesticulation

Annabelle McEwen

Reflected Gesticulation, 2024 aluminium and polyepoxide mounted on aluminium, image transfer on cotton, hand-stitched frame, eyelets and twisted shackles 49 x 42.5 x 2 cm

This self-portrait records my body’s gestures via iPhone time-lapse, capturing blurred visual data. I superimposed images of three surveilled movements, processed that digital file into a topographic 3D model, then cast it in aluminium and polyepoxide via moulds. The work has an eyelet perforated hand-sewn fabric frame stained with image transfers. I explore the mediated body, synthesising cartographic visual language, physical materialisation and the aesthetics of surveillance, and CCTV.
