Midden, 2024 porcelain and black mid fire clay 15 x 40 x 40 cmMy piece investigates sustainable food derived from indigenous practices. The staple diet of the Quandamooka people of Moreton Bay was oysters, long before oystering became the prevalent export industry in Queensland. My aim is to bring awareness to these cultural practices, while delving into the secret world of oysters and their perfectly designed shells. Using Nerikomi, I explore the contrast in texture and colour, to create both the calcified exterior, and the silky mother of pearl interior.
